Cadets are required to climb all three different courses; the High Ropes course that is a series of different obstacles that are suspended up in the air about 32-feet. The next one is tower that the Cadet must climb with various techniques to make it up to the top before their partner is allowed to lower them. The final course is the rock wall climb that has different sides to it, each one getting a little more difficult.

This course teaches Cadets trust and confidence. “It teaches us how to trust our equipment and how to make sure we trust ourselves,” said Nicolas Arias, University of Texas from Bart, Texas. “This is going to help me direct my Soldiers and teach them to trust themselves and the equipment. I will also be able to help them understand that the situation is hard you but you have people around you to support you.”

Cadet Arias talked on how this training would help him become a better leader. “It will help me become a better leader because I can show them something isn’t as bad as it seems. They can build more trust in me as their leader.”

This course doesn’t just help them gain confidence within themselves but as future leaders and helps them also gain confidence in their cadre members who are helping them along the course along side their battle buddies.

“We do everything together as a battle buddy, squad, platoon and company. The biggest takeaway is to trust each other,” said Cadet Grant Allen, Georgia Southern University from Valdosta, Ga.

Cadet Summer Training will bring 8,200 Cadets through Basic and Advanced Camp this summer on Fort Knox. These camps are designed to help challenge, grow and improve various skills and leadership qualities within the Cadets.
