FORT KNOX, Ky.- 1st Regiment Cadet Initial Entry Training (CIET) Alpha Company Cadets used the Virtual Battlefield Simulator 3 (VBS3) on June 19, 2016 to prepare for upcoming missions in the field.

Virtual Battlefield Simulation 3 is a computer program designed to mimic an actual field training area. This particular simulation is a re-creation of Fort Knox where Cadets will carry out missions to exercise what they have learned about leadership and battlefield tactics.

All squads of Alpha Company operated computers simultaneously to simulate all the Cadets operating in the field area. Sgt. Ariel Oluich, a VBS3 trainer from Fort Knox spoke about the VBS3 experience for Cadets.

“At first, Cadets will go through the orientation phase where they will learn the operating keys on the computer for the simulation and how to control their avatar. After orientation, Cadets will execute three different missions which mimic the live missions they will run in the field. Each mission has a different objective, the three missions being assault, ambush and recon. The separate virtual missions will be run several times as the squad leaders will change so each Cadet gets a chance to lead troops of their squad,” Oluich said.

VBS3 is an important tool in the preparation for battlefield missions. By going through the simulation of the physical training area, Cadets are able to do a dry run and get familiar with the territory. This also allows Cadets to solve and plan for scenarios that may arise during their missions, before being in the field.

The VBS3 exercise helps to better prepare Cadets for battlefield missions and focus on tactics and leadership development.
